The Ceremony
Jeanne
and her mother made all the arrangements to have the ceremony at
the Walter Reed Chapel in Washington, DC, on Friday, May 19, 1944.
It was a small, beautiful ceremony with only one attendant, her
sister Marre (Mrs. Douglas Harrington), as her matron of honor.
Her brother, Bob (Robert S. Sanford) SC 1/c U.S. Navy, gave her
away. The best man was Bud's brother-in-law, Victor Oristano. The
groom wore the classic military dress whites, while the bride wore
a custom designed colonial gown. It was a cream brocade satin,
with drop shoulders, fitted waist, and a very wide gathered skirt.
She carried a colonial bouquet of spring bridal flowers which she
also designed. On her head she wore a Spanish lace mantilla.
The
reception was held at the famous Shoreham Hotel in Rock Creek Park,
Washington, DC. They honeymooned in New York and Virginia Beach.

Afterwards, they stayed at different Air
Bases until April 1945, when Bud was assigned to the NY Port of
Embarkation in Brooklyn.
Jeanne's dream of getting to New York City to look for a fashion
design job was finally realized. (For more about this, see the "Design" section.) |
