1968 White House luncheon & fashion show, "How to Discover America in Style"

1963 Corduroy Council Citation

1968- Jeanne was invited to an honorary White House Luncheon, hosted by First Lady, Mrs. Lyndon Johnson, on Feb. 29th, 1968. This was an historic luncheon party as it was the first fashion show ever given at the White House. The show of summer fashions titled, "How to Discover America in Style" included some of Jeanne's Sportwhirl designs. The show was produced by Eleanor Lambert, and commentated by Nancy White, editor of Harper's Bazaar. A special runway was built for the occasion that ran the entire length of the State dining room. The Marine band played while red, white, and blue American fashions were modeled. Aside from Jeanne Campbell's fashions, Jimmy Galanos, Geoffrey Beene, Bill Blass, Kasper and others were there. At the 10 tables were some 100 guests, consisting of cabinet members and governors' wives, such as Mrs. Hubert Humphrey and Mrs. Nelson Rockefeller, designers, such as Rudi Gernreich, and news correspondents, such as Nancy Dickerson. President Johnson even dropped in to greet the guests. An article in Women's Wear Daily by Eugenia Sheppard, appeared in the March 1st, 1968 paper.
